Are You Up to Speed on THOR?

THOR (Trauma Hemostasis and Oxygenation Research) is an international multidisciplinary network of civilian and military providers ranging from first responders to critical care physicians and from basic scientists to clinical trialists. The mission of the THOR Network is to develop and implement best practices for prehospital care through to the completion of the acute phase of hemorrhagic shock resuscitation.

Also termed Remote Damage Control and Resuscitation (RDCR), this topic is of growing interest in transfusion medicine. The THOR Network’s RDCR Symposium each June in Norway is attended by several AABB thought-leaders and proceedings have been reported in TRANSFUSION. The attached helpful primer contains three such reports—a recap of the symposium’s first 5 years (2016); an update from last year’s meeting (2017); and a sneak preview of an article that should appear later this year.
