The hospital transfusion service is often the logical “home” for centralized quality management of activities related to tissue allografts—from supplier qualification through recall management.
The Joint Commission has established requirements for hospitals that receive, store, transplant or distribute human tissue. This Guideline follows the structure of the joint Commission requirements and provides the rationale for those requirements as well as suggestions for processes that should be in place for quality management of tissue activities. Included is a crosswalk that links the Joint Commission requirements with applicable AABB standards.
