Program Description: Red cell genotyping is a powerful tool in transfusion medicine. The DNA testing can be used to obtain an extended predicted antigen profile on patients, identify those with altered alleles, and aid in resolution of difficult antibody workups. Genotyping of donors can improve the availability and selection of suitable units for transfusion. This program will explore the application of patient red cell genotype testing and current and future donor genotyping strategies. These approaches will also be illustrated through case studies.
