Red Cross, White House Partner for First-Ever Pride Blood Drive

The White House partnered with the American Red Cross on June 4 to hold its first-ever LGBT-inclusive blood drive in honor of Pride Month, The Advocate reported. Francisco Ruiz, the White House director of National AIDS Policy, addressed participants and expressed gratitude for their contributions. Ruiz also discussed deferral policies for those taking medications for pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis, stressed the effectiveness of these HIV prevention tools, and highlighted the importance of maintaining the safety of the blood supply.
