Congress Seeks Input on Strengthening Biotechnology Supply Chains

September 25, 2024

The United States Congress is seeking feedback from biotechnology and health care leaders on securing and enhancing U.S. medical and biotechnology supply chains. U.S. House Representatives Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), Blake Moore (R-Utah) and August Pfluger (R-Texas) issued a request for information (RFI) this week aimed at reducing U.S. reliance on foreign countries for critical biotechnology components, including genomic testing and pharmaceutical ingredients.

The RFI supports the BIOSECURE Act, which seeks to protect American biotechnology by prohibiting federal contracts with companies tied to foreign adversaries. Congress is requesting insights on economic barriers to onshoring biotechnology operations, strategies for diversifying supply chains and regulatory challenges impacting domestic production, among other topics.

The deadline to submit responses is Oct. 4.
