Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.
Platelets
The national availability of platelets is moderate. All known need is met
within 24 hours.
Red Blood Cells
There are pockets of demand for O-negative blood. Otherwise, availability of most blood types is flourishing at early-fall levels. All known demand is met within 48 hours.
Types O and B fresh-frozen plasma (FFP) are plentiful, readily addressing all known usage. There is a small surplus of AB FFP. This is good news for blood centers looking to increase inventory before the next usage trend, which can be challenging to source at the time of need. Availability of type A FFP is balanced with demand, and usage of cryoprecipitate products is supported by robust availability.
