Blood Products Availability

January 07, 2026

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.

Platelets
The national surplus of platelets is abundant. All known needs are met within 24 hours.

Red Blood Cells
A-positive and B-positive blood remains plentiful. However, the availability of type O blood has decreased sharply in the past 72 hours, consistent with seasonal, wintertime levels. Availability of types A-negative and B-negative is also trending lower.

Frozen Products

An uptick in the use of cryoprecipitate products is being supported by strong, although decreasing, national availability. Types O and B fresh-frozen plasma (FFP) are plentiful, readily addressing all known usage. Demand for type A FFP is well met due to solid national availability; however, the demand for AB FFP exceeds availability.
