Blood Products Availability

January 08, 2025

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange and is intended to complement the weekly Group O blood supply report.

Platelets
All known usage of platelets is being met by strong national surplus.

Red Blood Cells

Types A-positive, B-positive, and A-negative RBCs are readily available. However, the availability of O-negative RBCs has experienced a seasonal downturn with the arrival of winter weather. A snowstorm mainly impacting the Mid-Atlantic U.S. is causing minor delays on some flight corridors serving the region. While these delays can be logistically troublesome, there are no reports of product loss.

Frozen Products

The demand for types A and AB plasma is nearly balanced with availability. All known needs are being met within two days. National inventories of single and pooled cryoprecipitate are strong, and all known demand is being served within 24 hours.
