Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.

Platelets

All known need for platelets is met within 24 hours due to strong national availability.

Red Blood Cells

Availability of Rh-negative blood is declining nationwide, often signaling the end of the seasonal spring surplus. Meanwhile, supplies of Rh-positive blood remain strong and continue to meet demand in parts of the Northeast and Southwest.

There is steady use of single cryoprecipitate amid decreasing national quantities. Most types of fresh-frozen plasma are plentiful, readily addressing all known needs. Demand for type AB is also slowing, which allows donors and blood centers time to rebuild inventories before the next uptick in usage.
