Blood Products Availability

October 15, 2025

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange.

Platelets
The national availability of platelets is strong. All known need is met within 24 hours.

Red Blood Cells
In portions of the Northeast, there are pockets of usage of O-negative and B-negative red blood cells. Otherwise, the seasonally high surplus of blood continues. This usually moderates by the holiday season in the U.S. All known demand is met within 24 hours.

Frozen Products

Types O and B fresh-frozen plasma (FFP) are plentiful, readily addressing all known usage. There is a small surplus of AB FFP. This is good news for blood centers looking to increase inventory before the next usage trend, which can be difficult to source when needed. Availability of type A FFP is balanced with demand, and usage of cryoprecipitate products is supported by robust availability.
