José Mauro Kutner is a Brazilian board-certified specialist in hematology and transfusion medicine with more than three decades of experience in hospital-based clinical care, administration and medical education. He earned his doctor of medicine degree from the Universidade de São Paulo Medical School. He completed his residencies in internal medicine and hematology/transfusion medicine at Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo, followed by a PhD in transfusion medicine, which he obtained from the same institution, in 1998. He also completed a fellowship at the New York Blood Center.
Throughout his career, Kutner has maintained a strong commitment to advancing patient care through the integration of innovative medical practices, evidence-based treatments and high standards in clinical operations. His focus has been on expanding and improving hematology and transfusion medicine services, particularly in the context of large hospital systems.
Kutner is actively engaged in medical research and teaching, contributing to the academic advancement of hematology and transfusion medicine. He serves as an associate professor at the Faculdade Israelita de Ciências da Saúde Albert Einstein, where he mentors physicians and researchers. His research interests include transfusion safety and advanced cellular therapies, with a particular focus on how these areas can improve patient outcomes in hospital settings.
Kutner has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also been an active member of AABB since 1990, participating as an assessor and contributing to the organization’s efforts to set global standards in transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.
