HHS, NHLBI Release Materials to Encourage Blood Donation

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) released new materials to highlight the continuous need for blood and encourage blood donation.

Ahead of National Blood Donor Month (NBDM), which begins in January, HHS released a video series to support the “Giving = Living” blood donation campaign. The videos – available in English and Spanish – tell the stories of patients whose lives were saved by blood donation to thank current blood donors and encourage others to become blood donors. The “Giving = Living” website also includes sample promotional and educational materials for blood collectors to promote blood donation in NBDM and throughout the year.

NHLBI also released additional resources to promote blood donation. The “Donate Blood. Save a Life.” handout share information on the importance of blood donation, who can donate blood and where to find a blood donation center. The handout is also available in Spanish.
