Jeff Wren to Join AABB as Vice President, Biotherapies

Bethesda, Md. – The Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), a global community of individuals and institutions involved in transfusion medicine and biotherapies, announced today that Jeff Wren, MBA, will join the Association as vice president, biotherapies. He will begin his new role on July 17.

An AABB member since 2018, Wren brings extensive experience building successful cellular therapy programs to the Association, where he will drive efforts to advance the biotherapies industry and increase the supply and safety of these transformative therapies. He will also champion the development of new and existing AABB programs and services to meet the evolving needs of the biotherapies field.

“Jeff’s experience establishing groundbreaking initiatives in the biotherapies space makes him an ideal choice to lead our efforts in this evolving area of health care,” said Debra BenAvram, AABB’s CEO. “We are confident that his insight and expertise will help AABB to better meet the needs of our members, corporate partners and patients whose care depends on them.”

Wren joins AABB after more than a decade at Be The Match. Most recently, he served as director of product services, product development, and innovation, where he established multiple programs for Be The Match and Be The Match BioTherapies. Wren previously spent four years with the Blood Research Institute, researching new ways to improve diagnostic tools for patients with bleeding disorders.

“This is an exciting time to join AABB because, as a community, we are just beginning to see how transformational cell and gene therapy treatments can be for patients,” Wren said. “I look forward to supporting AABB’s members as they strive to unlock the next generation of these life-changing innovations.”

Wren received a Master of Business Administration specializing in medical industry leadership from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He lives in Minneapolis, Minn., with his wife and three children.
