Jeanne Marrazzo Named New Director of NIAID

Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, has been named as the new director of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), filling the role previously held by Anthony Fauci, MD.

Marrazzo is currently serving as the director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is expected to begin her new role with NIAID in a few months. As NIAID director, Marrazzo will oversee NIAID’s projects aimed at advancing the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of infectious, immunologic and allergic diseases.

“Dr. Marrazzo brings a wealth of leadership experience from leading international clinical trials and translational research, managing a complex organizational budget that includes research funding and mentoring trainees in all stages of professional development,” said Lawrence A. Tabak, DDS, PhD, acting director for the NIH. “I look forward to welcoming Dr. Marrazzo to the NIH leadership team.”
