The AABB Annual Meeting features a variety of different types of learning opportunities. One of the favorite formats has consistently been “Ask the . . .” sessions. This year, attendees have two choices.
Ask the FDA and CMS/CLIA
On Saturday, from 2:15-3:15 (CT) in Room 207 of the convention center, AABB’s regulatory affairs director Karen Palmer, MT(ASCP), CQA(ASQ) will host a panel of federal regulators speaking on policies, regulations, guidance documents and inspection programs relevant to the oversight of blood and biotherapies. In the past few months, blood centers and transfusion services were invited via Weekly Report to anonymously submit their most burning questions. No doubt the responses will be relevant to many in the audience.
Ask the Standards Committee(s)
On Monday, from 5:30-6:30 (CT), you’ll want to find your way to Grand Ballroom A2, where experts in standards development will answer questions. Susan Galel, MD, will preview the updates to the forthcoming 34th edition of BBTS Standards and discuss emergent and interim standards recently proposed. Michael Gannett, MLS(ASCP)SBB will preview updates to the forthcoming 13th edition of IRL Standards. Chris Bocquet, AABB’s senior director, standards and quality initiatives, will be on hand to talk about the new template for Quality Systems Essentials. Microphones will be available for questions from the floor.
