Complimentary registration is available for the seventh annual World Cord Blood Day Virtual Conference, taking place Wednesday, Nov. 15. Each year, Save the Cord Foundation hosts this complimentary event to promote understanding of cord blood, highlight its role in treating more than 80 health conditions, and dispel common misunderstandings regarding cord blood and its potential clinical applications.
In this year’s opening session, Colleen Delaney, MD, MSc, affiliate investigator in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch Cancer Center, will join Charis Ober, executive director of Save the Cord Foundation for a livestreamed interview. Delaney will discuss the history of cord blood and look at the many ways cord blood is used today. In addition, she will talk about what she sees as the most exciting areas of research using cord blood stem cells and related perinatal cells and tissues.
The program also features on-demand presentations from leading cord blood transplant doctors and investigators on the latest cord blood research, including the CuRe Trial, which is evaluating a potential cure for spina bifida using fetal surgery and placental stem cells. The program also includes an interview with coach and cord blood recipient Azucena Garcia. A full agenda is available online.
The World Cord Blood Day web page includes additional resources for organizations and individuals interested in participating, such as a global event calendar, educational games and videos, and cord blood facts. AABB encourages members of the blood and biotherapies community to share their World Cord Blood Day activities and follow along on Facebook and Twitter using the #WCBD23 hashtag.
