Carter BloodCare announced Wednesday that Laurie J. Sutor, MD, MBA, vice president of medical services and chief medical officer, will retire in August 2024. Sutor’s retirement will cap a 30-year career with Carter BloodCare and more than 40 years in health care.
As CMO, Sutor has led several departments across Carter BloodCare, including medical services, clinical apheresis, reference and transfusion, procedure development, donor notification and the cellular therapy laboratory. She is also a professor of pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and medical director at the facility’s Transplant Services Center.
Sutor is a distinguished member of several leading professional associations, including AABB (since 1987), the American Association of Tissue Banks, the American Medical Association, the American Society for Apheresis, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, the Dallas County Medical Society, the International Society for Cellular Therapy, the South Central Association of Blood Banks and the Texas Medical Association.
Throughout her career, Sutor has held leadership roles with many regional and national medical professional groups. These include president of the North Texas Society of Pathologists, chair of the Scientific Medical Technical Committee with America’s Blood Centers (ABC), chair of the Physician’s Council with the American Association of Tissue Banks, chair of the Council of Science and Public Health for the Texas Medical Association, member and treasurer of the board of directors with ABC, and member of the board of directors of Blood Centers Exchange. She has received several awards in recognition of her outstanding service to the blood community.
