AABB Celebrates 54 Years of National Blood Donor Month

AABB joins blood collectors throughout the United States in celebrating the 54th anniversary of National Blood Donor Month (NBDM) and those who selflessly donate blood and platelets for patients in need of transfusion.

Although blood donations typically decrease during the winter months, the need for blood remains constant. Since 1970, the blood community has observed NBDM in January with the goal of increasing blood and platelet donations during this period because a reduction in donor turnout can put the nation’s blood inventory at a critical low.

As part of its NBDM celebration, AABB is offering members complimentary access to a series of educational programs focused on diversity, inclusivity and equity in blood donation. Explore these programs and other complimentary resources on AABB’s NBDM web page.

In addition, AABB is pleased to announce that Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will take over the AABB Instagram page on Thursday, Jan. 25, to highlight the vital connection between blood donors, blood collectors, first responders and hospitals. Follow the takeover and join the conversation using the #NBDMtakeover hashtag on Instagram.

Throughout the month, AABB will share a series of graphics about blood donation on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages to highlight the importance of blood donation. AABB encourages members to take advantage of these graphics in their own NBDM activities.
