11th Edition of Standards for Perioperative Autologous Blood Collection and Administration Takes Effect Jan. 1

The
11th edition of Standards for Perioperative Autologous Blood Collection and Administration (Perioperative Standards) will take effect Jan. 1 and contains several significant changes from previous editions.
AABB’s Perioperative Standards Committee highlighted the following updates:
- The 11th edition incorporates the updated Quality Systems Essentials template, including updated language and new sections on key concepts, key terms and examples of objective evidence.
- New Standard 4.2.4 requires that all programs define agreements for all third-party providers of contracted services.
- New Standards 5.1.10.1 – 5.1.10.3 address proficiency testing referrals, associated communications and notifications to CMS.
- New Standard 5.3.2 provides minimum criteria for performing acute normovolemic hemodilution.
- New Standard 5.3.4 provides minimum criteria for the collection and administration of platelet-rich plasma.
- New Standard 7.3.4 provides details under what circumstances a perioperative collection can be restarted once the investigation of a potential adverse event has taken place.
