AABB Seeks Feedback to Guide Updates to 14th Edition of IRL Standards

January 21, 2025

AABB’s Immunohematology Reference Laboratories (IRL) Standards Committee is seeking feedback to guide updates to the draft 14th edition of Standards for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories before the committee meets to draft and finalize the draft standards for public comment later this spring.

The draft 14th edition is based upon the final 13th edition of Standards for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories. Those who do not have access to the 13th edition should email standards@aabb.org to request two-week trial access in the Standards Portal.

The committee requests that commenters identify the current standard by its number at the beginning of their comments, especially if commenting on more than one standard. The committee also encourages commenters to provide alternative wording if they think it would improve the clarity of a standard. Finally, those who agree or disagree strongly with a current standard should state a reason or submit data to support their viewpoint.

The deadline to submit comments is Feb. 20. AABB will continue to hold the 60-day open comment period following the release of the proposed 14th edition of Standards for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories, currently scheduled to begin in April.
