Senators Introduce Bill to Reauthorize Sickle Cell Treatment Program

February 28, 2025

Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, introduced legislation Feb. 26 to reauthorize the Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration Program.

Last authorized in 2018, the program seeks to expand the number of clinicians trained in sickle cell disease (SCD) care and enhance the quality of care for individuals with SCD. It also aims to improve care coordination during the transition from pediatric to adult care and develop best practices for integrating services across providers.
