Blood Products Availability

March 11, 2025

Blood Products Availability is published biweekly on the AABB Newsfeed and in Weekly Report. This estimate is based on data from AABB's National Blood Exchange and is intended to complement the weekly Group O blood supply report.

Platelets
All known usage of platelets is being met by strong national surplus.

Red Blood Cells
Consistent with early springtime availability, there is a national surplus of Rh-positive blood and demand is low. Types A-negative and B-negative are stable, however, locating substantial quantities of O-negative blood can take up to 72 hours to source.

Frozen Products
Most demand for frozen products is met within 24 hours. However, there is elevated usage of cryoprecipitate, which may take more than 48 hours to source due to declining availability. Known demand for fresh frozen plasma is addressed immediately – usually within 24 hours.
